SPURT IN MEASLES CASES
A report appearing in a leading Indian newspaper states that there has been a shocking rise of 300% in measles cases reported across the globe during the period from January to March this year as compared to the same period last year, based on a study published by World Health Organization (WHO).
In a related development, New York City has declared a health emergency after an outbreak of measles attributed to people who refused to get vaccinated. Under the order passed by the NY authorities, people will have to get vaccinated or face fine of $1,000.
India is the third country in terms of highest cases of measles recorded under the aforesaid study, with Madagascar and Ukraine occupying the first two spots.
